Cobolt strengthens its German market approach as a member of the HÜBNER Group

Cobolt is proud to announce that they will integrate their German sales activities into the HÜBNER Group and its Photonics division as of July 1st, 2016.

In December 2015, the HÜBNER Group, headquartered in Kassel Germany, acquired Cobolt AB. Cobolt’s long-standing partner for sales in Germany, Dag von Gegerfelt, will head the sales activities for the Cobolt lasers and for the tunable laser light source C-WAVE in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This move will strengthen HÜBNER’s current sales force within their Photonics division, focusing on servicing both Cobolt’s customers and HÜBNER’s customers.

Through the integration of Cobolt’s and HÜBNER’s sales activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, customers will continue to benefit from excellent service from knowledgeable experts, now enjoying expanded resources and a larger product portfolio.

Direct modulation on 06-DPLs up to 50 kHz at 532nm and 561nm!

Cobolt AB is proud to introduce modulation capability on the diode pumped lasers (DPL) in the green-yellow region of the Cobolt 06-01 Series of plug and play CW lasers. The 06-DPLs are available at 532 nm and 561 nm with up to 200 mW output power and offer direct intensity modulation (analog and digital) at up to 50 kHz.

The 06-DPL lasers complement the modulated diode lasers (MLDs) already available in the Cobolt 06-01 Series, which offer a market leading combination of modulation extinction ratios (>10 000 000:1) and high speed (up to 150MHz). Together, the 06-MLD and 06-DPL lasers in the Cobolt 06-01 Series offer a very complete spectrum of directly modulatable wavelengths from 405 nm to 660 nm in a compact form factor, ideal for demanding life science applications.

10 000 lasers by Cobolt!

Cobolt AB is proud to announce that they produced and shipped their 10 000th laser in February 2016. The recipient of the Cobolt Samba™ 532nm 300 mW single frequency laser, Dr Sam Johnson (standing next to Kirn Akram from Laser Lines UK, Left photo) from the Photonic Nanomaterials Group in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford, was ‘excited and surprised, it was an honour’.

With roots from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and founded in 2000, Cobolt has been a dedicated supplier of high performance lasers to the analytical instrument market for now 16 years. After many market firsts and pioneering its proprietary manufacturing method, HTCure™, Cobolt lasers have proven to deliver unmatched reliability and performance both in the lab and industrial environments, demonstrating lifetime capability of >60 000 hours.

Sam Johnson is studying nitrogen vacancy (N-V) defects in diamond lattices which could hold the key to the future of quantum computing. The Cobolt Samba™ 532nm is used in a scanning confocal microscope set-up to excite the diamond, the red emission highlighting the N-V lattice defect (Right photo). Cobolt was the first choice due to the higher available output power, excellent power stability and TEM00 beam, as well as quick delivery time. Cobolt wish Sam all the best for his experiments towards the future of quantum computing. Read the Press Release here.

Congratulations to Dr Marie Carlén and her team at Karolinska Institutet!

Will we really be able to improve our attention in the future? Using Optogenetics, Dr Marie Carlén and her team at Karolinska Institutet’s Department of Neuroscience have shown for the very first time that this may actually be possible after identifying a cell type in the brain of mice which is integral to attention. Their ground breaking research was recently published in the prestigious journal Cell and has large implications to the understanding of how the brains frontal lobe works. We trust the groups Cobolt lasers helped contribute to their ground breaking research. Read more

Congratulations to Marie and her team!
